Ed Murphy
AB Class of '75

The ABRHS Class of 1978 website is dedicated to the memory of our first fallen hero, Ed Murphy, and to his brother Tom. We remember Ed's warm smile and quick wit, but especially his tenacious personality which sent us this unspoken admonition in developing our own: Never never settle for vanilla when you have your choice of Rocky Road or Peppermint Bon Bon. Ed was a giant to us, and our time with him will never be forgotten.

And perpetually to the memories of classmates Susan Herskowitz, Dennis Kuipers, Stan Collins, and Amanda Cobb. And to Mark Hynes, whose farewell message to the class was "Come fame or fortune, I will never forget my friends in the Class of '78."

And to the concept of lifelong friendship; the proudest words of childhood: "I Made This!"; always Kathy & Ryan.

The site was launched in April 1998 in the spirit of the surviving premise of a failed ideology: from each according to ability. It is currently in it's Sophomore Year with respect to content and design.

The project advanced because you took the time to become a part of it, and only then did it become more the endless lists Maryann and the rest worked so hard to produce. Many important relationships have been revived here. Imagine you're a fly on screen of the '78 AB grad who stumbles upon it for the first time... all because of you.

The site was created by Timothy Whelan, a simple conduit for the boundless energy and amazing abilities of Maryann Morse, with the hope that her familiar voice might reach your ears.

The overall concept was inspired by connections made long ago and never forgotten. They manifest themselves today in countless habits, preferences, traits, frienships and love affairs built on the bedrock of those connections. The graphic concept is a vibrant, dynamic mass moving upward through time in loose association, each part deriving momentum and comfort from the rest, and the beauty of the whole -- collected by the regular orbit of an event -- can only be truly appreciated from a distance.

The site is a product of serendipity, and proof of life's most important lesson: your destiny will be a product of the opportunities you answer with dedication. Or maybe: the love you take is equal to the love you make. Take your pick.

See You In The Future
