Updates for 2008!

Cindy Anderson is happily residing in Oregon, enjoying her private practice as an Acupuncturist. She loves what she does, and looks forward to each day she helps another person feel better. "I'm still surprised when I look in the mirror and see those curly grays popping up, but then I think how lucky I am to have hair... I don't get to the East coast often, and haven't been back to Acton in 20+ years. I'm sure I'd be surprised to see the changes!" (2008)

Cindy Campbell : Then, pretty good. Now, not as good! (2008)

Since the last reunion Robin Collmer took back her maiden name and is happily living with her two children Kalin ('91) and Tyler ('93) in South County, Rhode Island. Her daughter Kalin plays the flute in the high school band and her son Tyler started on the JV soccer team this past year. Both Robin's children also love snowboarding at RI's only ski area, Yawgoo Valley. They both hope to hit the slopes some day soon out at Beavercreek Resort in Vail, Colorado where their Uncle Matt works. Robin works for a Human Resource Specialist Company out of Needham, MA which gives her a lot of flexibility with her childrens' schedules. Robin has been on assignment at CVS's Corporate Headquarters for over 2 years now. Prior to working at CVS, Robin worked at General Dynamics Electric Boat where she met Tony, a special person in her life who introduced her to the adventures of motorcycle riding. "I was petrified at first, but now I really enjoy it"! (2008)

Bradford Feltus is alive and well in Lancaster Massacusetts, pondering ways of "Going Green" and getting off the grid. "I see Vermont in my future! Hope to see your old faces in the near future. Ali, did I really change Kenny Franks' tire on prom night? I think the blackouts started sooner than I first thought. I'll get you your yearbook soon!" (2008)

Mary Franz Allan is enjoying her 25th year as a Chef/Instuctor in the Culinary Arts department at Lowell High School. She can't afford to retire, so feel free to drop in for a visit any time before 2020! Mary's two money pits (aka her children) continue to make her proud as Brandy (1984) graduated from New England Culinary Institute with a BA in Hotel and Restaurant Management. Brandy is currently the Sous Chef at Sweet Waters in Burlington, VT. Robert (1988) is attending college for Physical Training/Therapy. Mary is looking forward to the "empty nest" as promised by "the supportive parent contract". (2008)

Duane Gavin has "led a curious existence" since '78 (tell us something new, Duane!) -- first to the Univ. of New England in Biddeford ME, then graduating from Framingham State College with a BA in sociology. The early years are filled with memories of "hopping boxcars in Tibet, chatting with the Pope, bringing down the Berlin Wall, and a staring contest with a tank in Tiananmen Square." Bored as an expatriot, Duane returned to MA and now lives in Templeton with his wife Moira (married in '94), son Casey ('99), daughter Torey ('02) and Liam ('08), and currently works as the Program Leader of four group homes for at-risk children, ages birth - 20 with LUK Crisis Center, Inc. in Fitchburg MA. (2008)

As of 2008, Hoovy's in his 20th year as a Foreign Service Officer with the U.S. Department of State. He's been living overseas as a diplomat for almost 12 straight years -- get your maps out! He served in China and Africa, and in 2008 he moved from Nairobi, Kenya to Kampala, Uganda. He'll be posted in Uganda for at least two more years, and strongly encourages his classmates to come on over to see Africa. He'll personally guarantee that no Class of '78 visitor will be eaten by lions or die of malaria. Hoovy is married to the beautiful Kathy Lin of California and they have two boys, Terry (1990) and Patrick (1992). Stay in touch! (2008)

This may not surprise anyone, but Barbara Jaus is working at an art museum! She is the Executive Assistant to the Director at the Currier Museum of Art in Manchester, NH. She is also Mom to two great kids: Kate and Ally, both born in the early 80s (you do the math). Last seen at the 5th reunion, a heck of a long time ago! (2008)

Chuck Krysieniel is a Travel Director with Carlson Marketing Worldwide. "Basically, I spend my time traveling around the world annoying hotel managers". This intriguing position places Chuck in onsite operations management of Meetings, Incentives and various Special Events. Special Event Sites have included the Doge's Palace of Venice, the Palace of Versailles, The Shores of Lake Tahoe, Beaches of Costa Rica and Waikiki, Gumpoldskirchen (a 12th century village near Vienna), Monaco, Cannes, St. Bart's, Aruba, Bermuda, the Bahamas, nearly every theme park in Central Florida, Convention Centers in nearly every Major American City as well as such memorable spots as the Holiday Inn of Overland Park, Kansas. Moved to Minneapolis where he worked in medical video production. He followed his heart and went west to San Francisco in 1988 where he worked in numerous luxury hotels, special events and nearly 5 years at a Silicon Valley network consulting firm. Eventually Chuck left the San Francisco Bay area and moved north to the Emerald City of Seattle, where he makes his home with his partner of 10 years, Brian Reed, professor of English at the University of Washington. Brian was recently awarded a Fulbright Visiting Scholar Fellowship; Chuck and Brian will be spending the Spring Semester of 2009 at the University of Bochum in Germany. Brian will be lecturing; Chuck will be writing and traveling as much as possible. "We are looking forward to weekends in London, Paris and Amsterdam." "I still have close ties to Acton, my parents have lived on Independence Road since 1959, my little sister works for the town and one of my nieces dates a Flannery!" (2008)

Chris Malcolm attended Bates College, ULowell, and UNH. He has lived in most of the New England states and had at least a dozen different jobs. He spent a year travelling with Up With People, and lived in Kenya for 2 years where he was a Peace Corps volunteer. He finally settled down in Portland, ME, where he met his wife Susan (married in 05). They have a son, Eben (07). Chris's previous interests (singing, contradancing) have been replaced by new interests (diaper-changing, trying to get enough sleep). (2008)

After leaving MassArt in her senior year to follow her parents and siblings to the west coast, Maurie J. Manning (known in school as Maureen) has been living in sunny California for a quarter of a century now. In the 1980s working in the art department of an educational software company, she was one of the original groups of artists using computer mice to coax pixels (in a fixed palette of 16 lovely colors including magenta) into fairly traditional looking children's illustrations. Fortunately, there have been massive improvements in digital illustration since then. Maurie's whole art studio fits in a box on her desk, and she never runs out of paper. Besides writing and illustrating picture books like the upcoming KITCHEN DANCE (check out her website at www.mauriejmanning.com) Maurie has kept busy raising two kids (son Robin graduated Spring 08 from UC Berkeley as an Architecture major and daughter Danielle is a high school student) as well as two dogs and two African Grey parrots. They all enjoy hanging out with friends and family in the San Francisco Bay Area where they are still waiting for the Big One. (2008)

Geoff Roberts and his wife Barbara live in Houston, Texas along with their two wonderful daughters Elizabeth Anne ('90) and Abigail Grace ('94). Elizabeth graduated from Episcopal High School in Houston with honors in May and she will be starting as a freshman at Texas A&M University in the fall of 2008 (are we really "mature"/old enough to have college age children?). Abigail will be going into the 8th grade this fall. Barbara is a stay at home mom and is active in the community. Geoff's outdoor advertising businesses (RTM Media LLC and Bluewater Outdoor LLC) now own over 150 billboards in 5 states and is continuing to expand. Geoff's civil engineering and MBA degrees come in handy with the myriad of challenges experienced in a small company. He continues to be active in the energy industry and serves on the Board of Entegra Power LLC, a major independent power generator. With the girls' school, sports and travel schedules they have much less time to enjoy their ranch in Chappell Hill, Texas and are considering a potential replacement with something near the coast in New England. The family makes it to New England at least once a year to visit family in Stow, MA (Geoff's sister Nancy Roberts McPherson - she owns and runs the Airfield Cafe at Minutemen Airfield) and in Camden, Maine (Geoff's sister Trish Carleton - retired to Maine after teaching for 30 years) - both of Geoff's sisters taught most of the class of '78 when they were in AB Junior High. (2008)

His family moved back to New England from Colorado so their now three year old son could enjoy his grandparents and extended family. I work in Lawrence, and despite the difference with Acton schools, I have to say teaching here is an incredibly rewarding experience!" (2008)

When she graduates in December I'm bringing my Bic lighter and all the whoopin and hollerin I can make. I'm gonna stomp my feet and shake the rafters. She is a bright and shining star for making a difference, one child at a time." (2008)

Leslie Stanley Doskocil graduated from Mount Holyoke College in December of 1981. She and Bill Doskocil (think Beach Boys,'75) were married just a few days later on Christmas Eve. This spring we celebrated their many inspiring achievements: Dr. Laura Doskocil, DPT earned her diploma and Ben is attending Suffolk Law in Boston. Lisa D'Agostine Coté lives in North Attleboro, MA with her husband and three girls: Margaux ('89), Hannah ('91), and ("surprise...!") Eliza ('99). I must admit that Field Artillery is a young man's game" -- humping cammo nets and 100 pound shells quickly reminds me of my age!."
